Overview

Enhancing the Learning Experience for Poker Power

Poker Power is an educational platform designed to teach women poker as a tool for building strategic thinking, confidence, and decision-making skills. The objective of this redesign was to improve usability, clarify the learning experience, and create a more engaging and scalable platform for users ranging from beginners to advanced players.

The Challenge

Navigation lacked clarity & structure

Users struggled to find courses, resources, and key features due to unclear hierarchy and inconsistent organization.

Leaning pathways were not clearly defined

Users did not have a clear starting point or progression, making the experience feel overwhelming and difficult to follow.

Content organization increased cognitive load

Large volumes of content were presented without sufficient prioritization or grouping, making it harder for users to scan and engage efficiently.

Mobile experience was not optimized for user behavior

A significant portion of users accessed the platform via mobile, but the experience did not fully support mobile usability and accessibility needs.

Key engagement features were underutilized

Interactive elements such as quizzes and practice tools lacked visibility and integration, reducing opportunities for deeper engagement.

My Role & Approach

UX Research

Planned and conducted user interviews, surveys, and analytics analysis to understand user needs, motivations, and friction points.

Information Architecture

Redesigned the platform’s information architecture to create clear navigation, logical content groupings, and structured learning pathways. Established a scalable framework that improved content discoverability and reduced cognitive load.

Interaction & UX Design

Created low, and high-fidelity wireframes in Figma, defining core user flows, navigation patterns, and responsive layouts. Focused on simplifying the user journey, improving clarity, and optimizing the experience across desktop and mobile devices.

Testing & Optimization

Led usability testing and A/B testing to evaluate performance improvements. Used quantitative and qualitative data to refine the experience and improve engagement, retention, and conversion outcomes.

Research & Discovery

User Interviews

Conducted interviews with 20 users across skill levels to identify motivations, barriers, and expectations.

To understand user needs and behavioral friction, we conducted a mixed-methods research approach.

Surveys

Collected quantitative feedback from 300 users to identify common usability and engagement issues.

Behavioral Analytics Review

Analyzed Google Analytics and Hotjar data to identify drop-off points, navigation patterns, and engagement gaps.

Key Insights

Navigation lacked clarity

  • Users struggled to find relevant courses, tools, and resources
  • The platform lacked a clear structural framework
  • Users relied on exploration rather than guided learning pathways

Content lacked hierarchy and progression

  • Content was not organized in a clear, logical progression
  • Users felt overwhelmed by the volume of available information
  • The experience did not provide clear guidance on where to begin or how to advance

Mobile experience was not optimized

  • A significant portion of users accessed the platform via mobile devices
  • The experience was not fully responsive or optimized for mobile interaction
  • This created friction and reduced engagement for mobile users

Interactive features were underutilized

  • Quizzes and practice tools were difficult to discover
  • Interactive elements were not well integrated into the learning experience
  • This limited engagement and reduced the effectiveness of key learning features

Information Architecture Strategy

We redesigned the information architecture to create a structured, intuitive learning ecosystem. Content was reorganized into clear categories, progressive learning paths, and logical groupings that reduced cognitive load and improved discoverability.

This new structure provided:

Clear entry points for new and returning users
Logical progression through learning content
Improved content discoverability
Scalable foundation for future content expansion

Usability Testing

Conducted usability testing with 15 participants to evaluate navigation clarity and learning flow effectiveness.

Key Takeaway

This project underscored the power of designing with user context, whether it’s a returning business customer or a first-time site visitor. By balancing personalization with clarity, we created a scalable platform ready for future growth.
